We all know that a rubbish night’s sleep, or not enough sleep , can make us look as rough as old boots.

Haggard, bloodshot eyes, grey skin, wrinkles that weren’t there before – you know the score.

As it turns out, there’s even more the to expression “beauty sleep” than we previously suspected.

In fact, if you want to appear at your most attractive, there’s an optimum time you should be aiming to go to bed at.

According to a study carried out by Sealy UK,  people who get an average of 9 hours and 10 minutes sleep a night reported the most positive improvements of their physical appearance, RSVPLive reports.

Now you can feel smug when you wake up

These improvements include clearer skin, brighter eyes and a better complexion in general.

The study’s findings also showed that the best time to go to bed was at 9.45pm – with a wake-up time of 6.55am.

While this proposed bed time might be a little (or a lot) earlier than what most adults are used to, sleep expert Neil Robinson reinforced the importance of “beauty sleep”, saying:

Early to bed

“Many of us strive to look and feel good and spend a large amount of money trying to do so. However, we seem to forget that achieving a better night’s sleep can positively impact our overall appearance.

“With this in mind, it’s important to consider the quality of sleep you are getting and doing everything possible to create an environment which makes quality sleep more likely.”
