Welcome to the Stage, the Star Horse of ‘Witcher’

By | July 17, 2019

Today, Hollywood welcomed into it’s equine pantheon a new horse. One devoted fans following the tight-lipped rollout of Netflix’s The Witcher have been eagerly anticipating. In a new promotional photo for the series which is expected to be released this fall, that The Witcher‘s star Henry Cavill also shared on his Instagram, fans got their first glimpse of Roach. Roach the horse is the faithful steed of Cavill’s main character Geralt of Rivia that accompanies him on his solo adventures to slay monsters in both the video games and books and short stories by Andrzej Sapkowski upon which the new series is based.

Players of the games have been apparently asking for a glimpse of Roach since The Witcher cast shots were first unveiled at the very beginning of July. They were placated by a benevolent Netflix Twitter account. Cavill, posting on his instagram, teased more information to come at San Diego Comic Con, which kicks off on Thursday, July 18th. The show’s star, and seemingly biggest fan, wrote:

“The road to San Diego is long. The good news is, on her worst day, Roach beats the company of Men, Elves, Gnomes and even Dwarves. She’s not always easy, but she knows more than most and cares just enough to be the only kind of company worth enjoying.”

Not much more is known about the actual horse playing the beloved horse. Except that he’s now joining the ranks of other much loved horses from film and television, including The War Horse horse, the horse from Seabiscuit, the horse that served as a model for the severed horse head in The Godfather, and Neidermeyer’s horse from Animal House.

Welcome to the club, horse that plays Roach.
