Bob Saget Is Hosting an Edgier Version of America's Funniest Videos

By | March 12, 2019

There’s some must-see TV on ABC tonight, and no, we’re not talking about the season finale of The Bachelor. Bob Saget, host of America’s Funniest Home Videos from 1989 to 1997, is making his return to the world of fiasco-filled footage with Videos After Dark.

Making its debut three decades after America’s Funniest Home Videos first aired, Videos After Dark will serve up the weirdest and wildest videos that smartphone cameras can capture.

Saget, best known for playing Danny Tanner in Full House and revival Fuller House, and his narration in How I Met Your Mother, has enjoyed a second act as a bawdy stand-up comic in recent years, touring with his Dirty Daddy set and releasing a book of the same name. And Videos After Dark, as the name suggests, is likely to include some edgier material as well.

“There are people that are inebriated,” Saget teased in a promotional video for the show. “If a preacher is marrying a couple, and he is completely intoxicated, I want to see that!”

He is quick to assure viewers, however, that the show isn’t just about laughing at other people’s misfortune: “Yes, people do fall down, but I’ve always had a strict policy that I want to see them get up. Don’t cut with somebody just going through a skylight!”

There’s a reason that thirty years since he first hosted AFHV, viral videos of epic fails are still such a big deal, and Saget thinks it’s their relatability. “People do some pretty silly things that they shouldn’t do, and there’s nothing funnier because it’s human foibles,” he said.

In the promo for Videos After Dark, which airs tonight at 10 pm/9c, Saget also offers some sage advice to viewers: “Stay away from lions!”
