Natural deodorants from Weleda – Do they work?

By | May 5, 2019

Weleda is one of those natural brands that I trust and regularly use. But their range is so vast that I still haven’t tried the majority of their products. I have my favourites though and that includes Weleda Citrus Roll-On Deodorant, one of my favourite natural deodorants. Although I always love to try other brands, I keep coming back to this deodorant as it’s so effective and the scent is lovely.

But Weleda offers other deodorant scents as well and last year I’ve tried their pomegranate deodorant for the first time and I loved it. This year I decided to explore other natural deodorants from the range so I ordered Weleda Wild Rose Deodorant and Weleda Men Roll-On Deodorant from LoveLula to see whether they are any good and whether they work. I gave the men’s deodorant to my fiance to test while I tested the Wild Rose deodorant myself.

I decided to put all the Weleda deodorants that I’ve tried together in this post so that they are easy to compare and so that you can easily decide which one you would prefer. Read on to find out what I really think of each of these products.

Weleda Citrus 24h Roll-On Deodorant – Review

I’ve been buying Weleda Citrus Roll-on Deodorant for years although in the last few years I have been testing other brands as well. But this natural deodorant still remains one of my favourites. It’s just because I love its citrusy scent and because this deodorant does work. I never smell bad when wearing it, even when the weather is really hot. Although I must say, the scent wears off a little bit during the day but the deodorant still works.

I know some people may need to apply this deodorant more than once a day to stay fresh, especially if they have strong body odour and they sweat a lot. I apply it once a day (in the morning) and for me, that’s enough.

This deodorant is gentle on the skin and great for those who often get irritated skin as it doesn’t contain bicarbonate of soda and other irritants which some people react to.

Just to mention that this natural deodorant is not gender-specific and it can be used by both men and women. I’ve read some reviews that men like it too, not only women!

What I love about Weleda Citrus Roll-on Deodorant:

  • the scent, obviously!
  • it works
  • easy to apply as it’s in a liquid form
  • does not leave stains and white marks
  • really natural with no nasty ingredients
  • contains no aluminium salts
  • doesn’t block pores
  • great for sensitive skin, does not cause any rashes

In terms of negatives, I love everything about the product itself but I know that the plastic packaging will not impress some people (although you can recycle it). Also, some people say that this deodorant stained their white shirts and t-shirts so be careful and don’t apply too much at once. Always wait for the deodorant to dry before wearing your white clothes.

Weleda Pomegranate 24h Roll-On Deodorant – Review

Weleda’s Pomegranate Roll-on Deodorant is very similar to the roll-on Citrus version, just the scent is different. The ingredients are pretty much the same, the only difference is the essential oils they use to create the scent. In the case of Pomegranate deodorant, they use fresh and fruity notes of orange and davana with a touch of vanilla. It’s a lovely fruity scent and I am a big fan of it.

Weleda Wild Rose Deodorant –  Review

If floral scents are more of your thing, then you will love Weleda’s Wild Rose Spray Deodorant. I don’t always love the floral fragrance but this one is really nice. It’s not overpowering and so lovely.

The fragrance is natural and comes from a combination of pure essential oils of precious Rosa Damascena and sensual ylang-ylang. The ylang-ylang sent is barely there and not very strong but I can definitely smell the rose. It’s a lovely scent, indeed.

Weleda Wild Rose Spray deodorant

This Weleda deodorant comes in a 100ml clear glass bottle with a spray pump and it’s protected by cardboard packaging. The bottle is recyclable and re-usable if you like so I guess it’s better for the environment.

Positives about Weleda Wild Rose Deodorant:

  • easy and quick to apply
  • gorgeous scent
  • non-sticky formula
  • you can see easily when it’s running out
  • does not leave stains or white marks
  • doesn’t block pores
  • it will last you for a while as you don’t need much for one application
  • it works!
  • this is a multipurpose product that can also be used to refresh your feet or as a fragrant body mist
  • vegan-friendly

Negatives:

  • may sting slightly if you apply it straight after shaving
  • strong alcohol scent when you spray it but this dissipates quickly
  • not everybody will like the scent and some people will find it too strong
  • a little bit pricy

On a positive note, if you prefer fruity scents, you can get the Citrus version of this deodorant (in a spray bottle) and there is also the Sage scent which I haven’t tried and I am not tempted as it doesn’t sound like my thing. But you may like it.

Weleda Wild Rose Deodorant – Ingredients

The first ingredient on the list is Alcohol and this type of alcohol is “raw grain alcohol”, which is a naturally-fermented plant-based sugar. This is an important ingredient that helps to preserve the product and keeps it fresh.

Sometimes when I use this spray, I can smell the alcohol and also my partner mentioned this but I don’t have a problem with this as it’s only temporary and it only happens when you spray the deodorant on your armpits (the alcohol smell doesn’t linger on your skin, I guess that’s because it evaporates). The only thing that I would mention here is that if you’ve just shaved your armpits, you may get a little bit of a sting if you use this deodorant straight after shaving. I always prefer to wait after shaving when my skin is the most sensitive and I normally apply the deodorant the next day in the morning.

Here is a full list of ingredients:

Alcohol, Water (Aqua), Fragrance (Parfum:)*, Limonene*, Linalool*, Citronellol*, Benzyl Alcohol*, Benzyl Benzoate*, Benzyl Salicylate*, Geraniol*, Citral*, Eugenol*, Farnesol*, Rose Moschata Leaf Extract, Rose Damascena Extract, Glycerin, Ammonium Glycyrrhizate. * from natural essential oils.

Weleda Men 24h Roll-On Deodorant – Review

Weleda Men 24h Roll-On Deodorant

Weleda has created a version of their roll-on deodorant, especially for men. My partner has been testing Weleda Men 24h Roll-On Deodorant for me and when I asked him how he is getting on he said that the deodorant was ok and that he didn’t smell at the end of the day. And that’s it, that was his feedback, short and positive! The most important takeaway is that this deodorant does work and will keep you fresh all day long. I actually really like its scent, it’s fresh but not that strong at all, not like some men’s deodorants which are unbearable. It’s certainly masculine though, I must say but pleasant (for me).

In terms of the ingredients, they are very similar to the rest of the roll-on range, the only difference is the essential oils they use to scent this product. The scent is described as “Woody herbal notes of rosemary combined with the invigorating freshness of litsea cubeba and vetiver essential oils“.

Here is a full list of ingredients:

Water (Aqua), Alcohol, Triethyl Citrate, Glycerin, Fragrance (Parfum)*, Sodium Caproyl/Lauroyl Lactylate, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Distillate, Acacia Senegal Gum, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Phytic Acid, Limonene*, Linalool*, Citronellol*, Benzyl Benzoate*, Benzyl Salicylate*, Geraniol*, Citral*, Coumarin*, Farnesol*.

Weleda’s natural deodorants – The final verdict

I really like Weleda’s deodorants and I am happy to recommend them to you whether you are a woman or a man. They do work and will keep you fresh all day long but if you have some doubts, just carry one with you and re-apply if you feel the need or if you want to make sure you stay smelling fresh. These deodorants won’t irritate your skin and won’t cause any rashes so they are great for those with sensitive skin.

Whether you go for the spray deodorant or roll-on deodorant it’s up to you but just to keep in mind that the spray one is quicker to apply and it comes in a glass bottle which you can easily recycle. It’s also bigger in size which means it will last you longer.

I loved the scents of all the deodorants from Weleda that I’ve tried, they are really lovely. You almost cannot go wrong by buying one of them. The men’s version is also good and I have had no complaints from my partner about it whatsoever.

You can buy Weleda’s deodorants directly from LoveLula with free worldwide delivery.
